Wedding - Myla and Rob

On Sunday (18th of June) I travelled up to Lacombe to photograph Myla and Rob's wedding. These two went 4-wheeling for their first date so it was a must to get them on the trails for some fun on their wedding day. I think I probably received about 50 mosquito bites in the 5 minutes we spent on the trail, but it was worth it.

Wedding - Jennifer and Aric

We have known these two since moving to Calgary some years ago. Simply put, they are close friends of ours. I won't go on about all the things we have done together over the years, I don't feel like writing an novel. We have been looking forward to this wedding for a while now and we weren't disappointed. A helicopter entrance to the Eagle's Eye Restaurant on top the Kicking Horse Ski Hill in Golden, B.C. Weddings don't get much better than this, well done guys!

National Post Article

I am a bit behind on my blogging as we had a busy weekend with two out of town weddings. On Saturday the National Post ran a story titled "A few dos and don'ts from some of Canada's top wedding photographers" and it was an honour to be mentioned with some of the country's best. Here is a photo of the article, sorry for the poor reproduction. The editor chose a photo from Nancy and Jason's wedding in May, which you can see a few postings below.

Stag for Aric

I am really excited to photograph Jen and Aric's wedding this weekend at the Kicking Horse Resort in Golden. They are good friends or ours and we were honored that they hired us. To stick with tradition a crew went out last night to give Aric a proper stag. We kicked things off on the go cart track and then made our way to the Yard House in Kensington for some mysterious pizzas (ever seen shredded lettuce, nacho chips and ranch dressing on a pizza???).

We made sure Aric wore the worst helmet.

Lots going on in this one. The guy in the front is Raoul, a doctor. I like how he opted out of wearing a helmet. The guy in the back is Karl, I guess he likes Go-Karts.

Don't ask....

Wedding - Lisa and Roland

Lisa and Rolland wanted to have their photos taken out at Elbow Falls in the Kananskis and we were more than happy to meet that request. Weather threatened to keep us indoors, but we ended up getting some really interesting lighting with rain clouds threatening overhead. Lisa spent most the afternoon in barefeet standing on cold rocks and in mud, so thanks Lisa for being a great sport!

Wedding - Kristine and Kevin

Kristine and Kevin had perfect weather on Saturday for their wedding. Two very nice families got together and celebrated the start of a marriage. It was cool to see. Thanks to everyone who made us feel welcome.

Wedding - Eli and Manuel

The Observation Deck of the Calgary Tower turned out to be a great location for a wedding. I was a bit concerned about all the glass, but the lighting was great. There were so many cute kids at this wedding I had to remember to photograph the bride and groom once and a while! A big thanks to Eli and Manuel for braving the 6 degree weather for a session on the Center Street Bridge. You guys were great!

Wedding - Maya and Arjun

When Maya called way back in October (or maybe it was November) she said she was an artist living in California, getting married in Calgary, and really connected with my work. I had no idea how good of an artist she really is. Check out her website at www.mayagohill.com. I’ll spare you the long story, but she was determined to have me photograph her wedding no matter what. Am I ever happy she was persistent and changed her date to one that I wasn’t booked. Maya and Arjun’s wedding was like a playground for photographers. Everyone was so accommodating and the food by the Tajmahal was unbelievable.

The kicker was that the whole event was decorated by Lea Romanowski of Designing on the Edge. I’m pretty sure she thinks I’m stalking her since we were at the same wedding two days in a row. Not only did she make the ceremony and reception venues look amazing, but she also showed up in a Sari and sang a song to the newlyweds which was required to get them to kiss. Wow, I’m just happy if I can get through the reception without getting any food on my shirt!

Espresso!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After years of searching we have found it. An espresso machine that really works, but doesn't cost thousands. The company is Breville out of Australia and we both agree that we couldn't have invested $400 more wisely. It was actually $445, but we got it at the Bay and signed up for one of those annoying HBC reward cards and saved %10 for doing it. I'm sure we'll get an endless supply of junk mail because of it. Right now we are using Starbuck espresso ground to the setting for their machines. Seems pretty good so far but we are also going to try the beans from Mr. Cappuccino on Center Street. He apparently imports fresh roasted beans each week from Italy.
